Greetings from the Army: The World War II Postcards of Archie Knight

Archie Knight, a lifelong resident of Northwest Georgia, was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 at the age of forty. Knight left his job as a driver for Thomas Bus Lines for basic training at Fort McPherson in East Point, Georgia. After basic training, Knight was assigned to Battery “D,” 6th Battalion, Second Field Artillery Training Regiment, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Following his honorable discharge in 1943, Archie returned home to Dalton, where he transported workers to ammunition factories in Chattanooga. Knight lived in Dalton until his death in 1974.

Mr. Knight’s niece, Lydia Knight, Library Director Emeritus at Dalton State College, donated her uncle’s papers to the Bandy Heritage Center for Northwest Georgia. This digital collection consists of holiday cards and postcards Mr. Knight received from friends, family, and former passengers during his military service.
